There are no surviving manuscripts to tell us when the Parish church in Podturen was founded, but its first mention dates back to 1334. On the site of the present-day parish church there once stood a building made of timber, but this wooden construction was lost without a trace. The parish church bearing S Martin's name was built in the second part of the 15th century in Gothic style, and was extended in baroque style in 1783. In the Gothic part of the chancel, one of Croatia's three largest sacred stones is kept. The Gothic section of the chancel is 12 metres long, 7.5 metres wide, while the baroque nave is 16 metres long and 10.5 metres wide. The wooden altars (a Gothic one in the chancel and two baroque ones in the nave) were erected in 1909 when the Italian Osvald Bierti painted the ceiling of the church. The spire has 5 bells and the gallery has a classic pneumatic 9-reg¬ister organ installed in 1924.
