Visitor's Centre St Martin - Szombathely

According to legend the Church of Saint Martin in Szombathely is built on the site of the birthplace of St. Martin. 

The Visitor's Centre in the former Dominican monastery adjoining the church is open to visitors

Monday to Friday 11:00, 15:00 daily (guided tours)

Saturdays 09:00 - 17:00

At other times only by special prior arrangement.

Tickets: 500 forint each person (no concessions)

The St George Abbey of Ják was founded by Marthinus Magnus de Jaak in cca. 1220, and it was consecrated in 1256. Its magnificent recessed doorway is the finest example of Hungary’s Romanesque architecture. The monastery, built adjacent to the church but destroyed in the late 16th century, was the home of Benedictine monks.   .....
