The settlement's name was first mentioned in 1332. It was owned by families belonging to the lower nobility. In 1522 the Turks, destroying the whole village, collected its people and hauled them away. The bishop of Veszprém brought German settlers here around the end of the 18th century.  The village church was built by German settlers in the 18th century, in honor of St. Martin
